Freeze and thaw: using ice-based technology

Thermal storage allows ice to accumulate during one period, and then thaws it for use during another. Ice production for storage is mostly run during the night because of cheaper electricity.

Apart from giving substantial energy savings, an ice storage solution is space-efficient, usually requiring only a fraction of the space needed by conventional cooling systems.
